As the Media, Communications & Events Officer, you’ll play a key role in telling RivMed’s story — celebrating our people, programs, and community impact. You’ll lead creative communication initiatives and you’ll be at the heart of how RivMed connects with our community.
You’ll:

Develop and deliver engaging communications across print, digital, and social media

Capture and share powerful stories that celebrate our programs, people and culture

Coordinate major events such as NAIDOC, Yandarra, and other community gatherings

Support internal communications that build team spirit and connection

Ensure all content and messaging is culturally strong, community-led, and in line with RivMed’s values
You’ll work closely with our CEO, Executive Team and Program Managers to promote RivMed’s work and strengthen our reputation as a trusted, culturally grounded organisation.
Who we are
Riverina Medical and Dental Aboriginal Corporation (RivMed) is a long-established Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation in the heart of Wiradjuri Country.
RivMed work to effect change in the most marginalised and vulnerable people in our community. We work to achieve this through the provision of culturally appropriate medical and well-being services for Aboriginal people and their families.
About You:
- Aboriginality - This is an identified Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander position and candidates will be required to provide confirmation of Aboriginality. (NB: applicants race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW)
- Awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australia and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal people.
- Demonstrated experience in communications, media, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
- Experience in writing, editing, and producing content for multiple platforms (print, web, social, media releases).
- Experience in community engagement, stakeholder relations, or working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills – able to engage with people at all levels and build trust in the community.
- Proficiency with digital tools including website management, social media platforms, and design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite).
- Ability to work independently, be proactive and innovative, and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Understanding of and commitment to culturally safe communication practices.
- A people-focused communicator who enjoys being out in the community.
- Creative, flexible, and innovative in developing communication approaches.
