The opportunity
RivMed is seeking an Family, Carer & Friends (FCF) Support Linker to join our team. The Linker will support the objectives of the program while working under the supervision and guidance of the AOD Team Leader. The role involves close collaboration with RivMed clinical and program staff to ensure holistic and coordinated care for both clients and their support networks.
The Linker will be responsible for delivering AOD support services across the Western Riverina, actively contributing to program implementation and evaluation within Aboriginal communities serviced by RivMed. The role also includes providing culturally informed advice to mainstream health services to support the development of inclusive strategies, programs, and policies that improve access for Aboriginal people.
This position focuses on supporting the families, carers, and friends of individuals affected by alcohol and other drug dependencies. It aims to link eligible clients with appropriate support services to address their needs as carers and enhance their capacity to cope. The role includes maintaining regular contact with clients and providing family-inclusive, culturally responsive, and evidence-based support to improve outcomes for both clients and their loved ones.
The Linker will also assess individuals presenting with a range of coexisting medical, mental, and social conditions to determine their suitability for the program and to ensure appropriate support pathways are established.

Riverina Medical and Dental Aboriginal Corporation (RivMed) is a long-established Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation in the heart of Wiradjuri Country.
RivMed works to effect change in the most marginalised and vulnerable people in our community. We work to achieve this through the provision of culturally appropriate medical and well-being services for Aboriginal people and their families.
Selection criteria
- Cert IV in A&OD/Mental Health or equivalent, or willing to obtain the necessary qualifications (Cert IV in Community Services (Alcohol & Other Drugs)
- Knowledge of and/or experience of drug and alcohol issues affecting Aboriginal People in the Riverina
- Willing to undertake training which may involve travel to Sydney & elsewhere
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- A genuine interest in the delivery of programs and services to the Aboriginal communities
- Good written, oral & computer based communication skills including report writing and client record/note keeping
- Good organisational skills, including the ability to work unsupervised and to timeframes
- Ability to learn and seek guidance from senior staff on managing clients with complex problems
- High level of interpersonal skills
- Current NSW drivers’ licence and willingness to travel for work
