The opportunity

RivMed has an exciting opportunity for 2 Domestic and Family Violence Early Intervention Workers.  Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the successful applicant will work within a growing supportive and passionate team at Riverina Medical & Dental Aboriginal Corporation (RivMed) to ensure delivery of the highest quality, services and programs.  

The Role

RivMed is committed to providing support and resources to individuals and families affected by domestic and family violence. Our mission is to offer early intervention services that prevent violence, provide safety, and promote healthy relationships within the community.

The Domestic and Family Violence Early Intervention (DFVEI) Worker plays a critical role in delivering support services to individuals and families at risk of or experiencing domestic and family violence. The DFVEI Worker will provide early intervention and prevention services, including risk assessments, case management, advocacy, and referrals. This position requires working closely with clients, community organisations, and other stakeholders to ensure a coordinated response to domestic and family violence.

The key objectives of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting comprehensive risk assessments and safety planning for individuals and families at risk of domestic and family violence.
  • Provide information, support, and referrals to relevant services such as legal, housing, and counselling.
  • Develop and implement case management plans tailored to the needs of clients.
  • Deliver early intervention programs and workshops focused on preventing domestic and family violence.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients with external agencies, including law enforcement, legal services, and housing providers.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with community organisations, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the organisation at community meetings, forums, and events related to domestic and family violence.
  • Provide immediate crisis intervention support to individuals and families in situations of domestic and family violence.
  • Offer emotional support and practical assistance to clients in crisis situations.

About you

To be successful in the role you will be able to demonstrate you meet the Selection Criteria below:

  • Aboriginality - This is an identified Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander position and candidates will be required to provide confirmation of Aboriginality with their application. (NB: applicants race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW)
  • Relevant qualifications in domestic violence, community services, or a related field.
  • Experience working in the domestic and family violence sector, particularly in early intervention and prevention.
  • Understanding of the dynamics of domestic and family violence, including the impact on individuals, families, and communities.
  • Strong case management and crisis intervention skills.
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures related to domestic and family violence.
  • Awareness of the cultural, social, and economic factors that contribute to domestic and family violence.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical practice.
  • Current Working With Children Check and National Police Check.
  • Valid Driver’s License and willingness to travel for work related purposes.
